ASCCA Legislative Update - May 2022

From ASCCA Legislative Advocate, Jack Molodanof The catalytic converter bills are starting to narrow down.  A couple of catalytic converter bills failed and others were not heard. The next big hurdle for all bills is the Appropriations Committee, where the fiscal impact is determined. April 20 - Bureau of Automotive Repair Advisory Group (BAG) Update

Prepared by ASCCA Legislative Advocacy Jack Molodanof   The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) held two regulatory workshops on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.  ASCCA Legislative Advocate Jack Molodanof and ASCCA Government Affairs Committee Chair David Kusa both attended the workshops.   The first workshop was on the updated Automotive Repair Dealer (ARD) application requirements and the second workshop was on the proposed Vehicle Safety Inspection program. Greetings ASCCA members and partners, We made it through 2020 and well into January 2021! We have all learned to be more resourceful and innovative managing our businesses. Challenging times do tend to make us stronger. However, many of us have lost family, friends and co-workers to the Covid-19 virus and are trying to deal with devastating losses. Together we will get through this pandemic. However, we will be changed because of the experience.   Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic ASCCA has helped to provide crucial resources, information, and contacts to move our businesses forward and survive this difficult time. It has also been helpful to network with other shop owners. I have found the support, feedback and insight to be extremely valuable in remaining creative and positive. Governor Newsom announces tax relief and grants now available to business owners

BAR Stakeholders –   California Governor Gavin Newsom has authorized new tax relief and grants to businesses impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. The Bureau of Automotive Repair is encouraging licensees to determine their eligibility for relief, which includes the following: Tax Relief for Businesses Impacted by COVID-19 The Governor will direct the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration to do the following: Provide an automatic three-month extension for taxpayers filing less than $1 million in sales tax on the return and extend the availability of existing interest and penalty free payment agreements to companies (with up to $5 million in taxable sales). Broaden opportunities for more businesses to enter into interest-free payment arrangements.
